- The quality of the merciful (ἐλεήμων) and the deed it does: Gen 47:29 for the Masoretic version's חֶסֶד "loyalty." Giving to the poor (Matt 6:2–4; Acts 3:2–3; 10:2, 4) is a split by collocation, "alms" (English "alms" is this word, worn down through Latin eleemosyna), ruled when the New Testament is reached (153a). "Mercy" is ἔλεος's, "have mercy" ἐλεέω's (one root, 95, to be declared)
