Genesis 14
1 This happened in the days of four kings. They were Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations. 2 These kings made war with five kings. They were Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, and Shinab king of Admah. They were also Shemeber king of Zeboiim and the king of Bela, which is Zoar. 3 All these joined forces in the valley of Siddim, which is the Salt Sea. 4 Twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, and thirteen years they defied him. 5 In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings with him came. They struck the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, the Zuzim in Hām, and the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim. 6 They also struck the Horites in their mountains of Seir, as far as El-paran, which is by the wilderness. 7 Then they turned back and came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh. They struck all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites who lived in Hazazon-tamar. 8 Then the kings of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim and Bela, which is Zoar, went out. They lined up for war against them in the valley of Siddim.
9 They fought Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of nations, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar. It was four kings against the five. 10 The valley of Siddim was full of wells of bitumen. The king of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and they fell there. Those who were left fled to the mountains. 11 The enemy took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food, and they left. 12 They also took Lot, the son of Abram's brother, and his goods, and they left. Lot was living in Sodom. 13 A man who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew. Abram was living in tents by the terebinths of Mamre the Amorite, the brother of Eshcol and of Aner. These men were bound by covenant with Abram. 14 Abram heard that his relative had been captured. So he called out his trained men, who were born in his house. There were 318 of them. He chased the enemy as far as Dan. 15 At night he divided his men against them, he and his slaves. He struck them and chased them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus. 16 He brought back all the goods. He also brought back his relative Lot and his goods, with the women and the people.
17 After Abram returned from striking Chedorlaomer and the kings with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him. They met in the valley of Shaveh, which is the King's Valley. 18 Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High. 19 He blessed Abram and said, "Blessed be Abram to God Most High, acquirer of the skies and the earth. 20 And may God Most High be blessed, who has delivered your foes into your hand." And he gave him a tithe of everything. 21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people, and take the goods for yourself." 22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High. He is the acquirer of the skies and the earth. 23 I swear that I will not take a thread or a sandal strap, or anything that is yours. You will never say, 'I made Abram rich.' 24 I will take nothing, only what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me, Aner, Eshcol and Mamre. Let them take their share."
