1 God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, "Bear fruit, be many, and fill the land. 2 Every wild animal of the land and every flying creature of the sky will be in awe and dismay of you. Everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea are given into your hand. 3 Every creeping thing that lives will be food for you. I have given you everything, just as I gave you the green plants. 4 But you must not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. 5 And for your blood, for your lives, I will surely require an account. I will require it from every animal. And from the hand of the human, from the hand of each man, his brother, I will require the life of the human. 6 Whoever spills the blood of the human, by the human his blood will be spilled. For in the image of God he made the human. 7 As for you, bear fruit and be many. Swarm in the land and be many in it." 8 Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him. He said,

9 "Look, I am making my covenant stand with you and with your seed after you, 10 and with every living soul that is with you: the flying creatures, the beasts, and every wild animal of the land with you, all that came out of the ark, every animal of the land. 11 I will make my covenant stand with you: never again will all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again will there be a flood to ruin the land." 12 God said, "This is the sign of the covenant that I am giving between me and you and every living soul that is with you, for all generations to come: 13 I have set my bow in the cloud, and it will be the sign of a covenant between me and the land. 14 Whenever I bring a cloud over the land and the bow is seen in the cloud, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and every living soul of all flesh. Never again will the waters become a flood to ruin all flesh. 16 When the bow is in the cloud, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living soul of all flesh that is on the land."

17 God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant that I have made stand between me and all flesh that is on the land."

18 The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham is the father of Canaan. 19 These three were the sons of Noah, and from them the whole land was dispersed. 20 Noah, a man of the ground, began, and he planted a vineyard. 21 He drank some of the wine and became drunk, and he uncovered himself inside his tent. 22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father's nakedness and told his two brothers outside. 23 But Shem and Japheth took the cloak, laid it on both their shoulders, walked backward, and covered their father's nakedness. Their faces were turned backward, and they did not see their father's nakedness. 24 When Noah awoke from his wine, he knew what his youngest son had done to him. 25 Then he said, "Cursed is Canaan! A slave of slaves he will be to his brothers."

26 He also said, "Blessed is the LORD, the God of Shem! Let Canaan be a slave to them. 27 May God make room for Japheth, and may he tent in the tents of Shem. Let Canaan be a slave to them." 28 After the flood Noah lived 350 years. 29 In all, Noah lived 950 years, and then he died.
