- Agent noun from אוֹר "light": the thing that gives light. The sanctuary word for the lampstand's lighting (Exod 25:6; 35:14; Num 4:9 "the lampstand of the light-giver"), so sun and moon, unnamed, are set in the skies as the menorah is set in the tent. "Lamp" is kept for נֵר (Exod 25:37; Ps 119:105) by reverse concordance; the LXX version's φωστήρ "light-giver" lets the two versions agree here
